Physical Education Standards

1. Students demonstrate competent skills in a variety of physical activities and sports.
  • Teen Talk: Students will show their different skills and capabilities through physical activities and sports.
  • Examples in the Classroom:
    • Students will participate in one team activity or sport, using defensive and offensive strategies(e.g. soccer, softball, and basketball).
    • Students will demonstrate an individual activity (golf, weight training).
    • Students will show understanding of one dual sport (tennis, badminton, pickle ball).
  • Service Learning Activities:
    • Students will coach younger students, demonstrating basic offensive and defensive srategies.
  • Careers for Exploration:
    • Professional Sports, Coaching, Physical Education Teacher
  • Classroom Exploration:
    • Team Sports, Weights, Golf & Bowling, Tennis/Volleyball/Pickle Ball, Coed Individual Development
2. Students demonstrate proficiency in physical fitness.
  • Teen Talk: Students will attain a skill in physical fitness.
  • Examples in the Classroom:
    • Students will maintain a moderate aerobic activity at target heart rate for 30-40 minutes to achieve cardiovascular benefits.
    • Students will demonstrate principles of training in all areas of health related fitness.
    • Students will set goals for improvement in health related fitness.
    • Students will make a personal fitness plan.
    • Service Learning Activities:
    • Students will help organize walk, run, and bike-a-thon to increase community awareness of the need for regular exercise and to raise funds for worthy causes.
  • Careers for Exploration:
    • Aerobic Instructor, Physical Education Teacher, Coach

    • Aerobics, Weights, Coed Individual Development
3. Students demonstrate the knowledge necessary to participate in physical activity.
  • Teen Talk: Students will show the knowledge necessary to participate in physical activities.
  • Examples in the Classroom:
    • Students will demonstrate a skill in a variety of sports and dance activities representing different cultural background.
    • Students will demonstrate cooperative participation in different activities.
    • Students will identify and explain the historical roles of games, sports and dance in various cultures.
    • Students will evaluate risks and safety factors that may affect physical activity throughout life.
    • Students will analyze biochemical principles involved in sports.
  • Service Learning Activities:
    • Students will organize inter-cultural games and sports events to demonstrate proficiency in a variety of sports and dance activities representing different cultural backgrounds.
